Nwabali, 28, has spent three years at the club since joining from Nigerian outfit Katsina United and is currently regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the South African Premier Division.

Following his standout performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where Nigeria finished runners up Nwabali was heavily linked with a move away from the Chilli Boys. However, he instead extended his stay by signing a three year contract and was also named team captain.

Despite that commitment, it now appears a transfer is imminent, with clubs reportedly monitoring his availability ahead of the summer window.

Editorial

Stanley Nwabali’s time at Chippa United appears to be coming to a natural and well-earned end. If anything, it’s surprising he’s stayed this long. After his outstanding AFCON 2023 display, he showed the world what many in South Africa and Nigeria already knew he’s a top class goalkeeper.

His move to Chippa three years ago was a calculated step, a platform to grow and prove himself on foreign soil. He’s done just that. From NPFL regular to international star, Nwabali’s trajectory is a lesson in patience, development, and seizing the moment.

But now, the stakes are higher. At 28, he's in his prime. Remaining in the South African league despite its competitiveness might not offer him the challenges or spotlight he now deserves. European or top North African clubs beckon, and they would do well to bring in a keeper with composure, presence, and big match experience.

Chippa United deserve credit too. They backed him, gave him the armband, and now appear willing to let him go for the right reasons footballing and financial. It’s a respectful parting that could benefit both parties.

Wherever Nwabali lands next, one thing is clear he’s no longer just a domestic talent. He’s a global one.
